Amira

Amira aspired to work in mental health support after volunteering with a community organisation in Oldham. The Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care with a mental health pathway provided academic grounding alongside extensive placement hours.

Placement coordinators matched Amira with a supported living service where she developed person-centred care plans and multi-agency working skills. Academic modules on safeguarding, ethics and evidence-based practice reinforced her professional judgement.

Careers advisers helped Amira prepare for interviews and explore progression to the BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care top-up. She received a UCO scholarship recognising commitment to community health work.

Amira now supports adults with complex needs and plans to top up to honours level while working. She shares her experience with first-year students during induction weeks.
